Our story
Hello there! 👋 It’s me, Emma, the face behind Emmsalabim.
The journey of this little art business has not been without its bumps and turns, but it has also been the funnest of rides from which I have learned so much along the way.
And it all started with a dream.
I was born with a pencil in my hand
Or, at least that is how it sometimes feels. When I think back, I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t draw. For as long as I can remember I have been knows as the “artist“ of the family, and for most of my life I have known I wanted to pursue a life in art and design. I always I knew would follow my passion, without knowing exactly where it would lead me.
On that note, my career actually started in fashion and clothing design and I still highly value the experience I gained in that field. I have since moved back towards my origins and rekindled my fondness for all things illustration. I still enjoy dressmaking as well, but Emmsalabim is all about my love for drawing!
Building an art brand
My art style has developed a lot, and I mean a lot, over the years while I have been experimented with many different mediums and sold my art on various platforms. It has been a lot of trial and error, and the learning never ends. Nevertheless I’m really grateful for all the lessons learned and most of all the support that I have gotten along the way, and couldn’t be happier about where working on Emmsalabim has taken me so far.
During recent years my interest has moved more towards the world of digital illustration, where I have truly found my professional and creative place. Nowadays I create all my art using the drawing app Procreate, which has become my most trusted partner alongside my iPad. Sometimes I get so absorbed into creating new drawings that I literally forget to eat!
Emmsalabim today
Today, I have built Emmsalabim’s visual image around cute, colorful and playful drawings - my forever mission is to create art that makes people smile. I have always felt like that is how art is best used; to spread happiness. I can only hope that you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them!
Moreover, I’ve learned that building even a small art business is actually so much more than just creating new art. Emmsalabim would not exist today without my husband, our biggest fan and most tireless supporter. Teamwork is what we do, and nowadays he works alongside me behind the curtains of Emmsalabim on the various non-art-related tasks that go into running a business, trying to bring this little dream of mine alive.
Where are we headed
In many ways Emmsalabim is only taking its first steps, and our plan now is to expand our selection first and foremost to other paper products and then continue to work on other exciting additions to the collection.
We are also very much looking forward to expanding our list of resellers. We absolutely love working with people and seeing our products in resellers' beautiful stores, so of course the more of them the merrier! Although Emmsalabim does not have its own physical store, many resellers also offer this great option and thus give our customers the opportunity to get to know our products more closely. Currently, all our resellers are based in Finland, but we hope to expand to other countries in the future.
